Avoid end-of-life controversies
The emotional roller coaster events that both sides of the Terri Schiavo family are experiencing can be avoided by a little planning. Many articles have been written recently about the importance of Living Wills and Health Care Powers of Attorney. Completing these documents and then communicating them to your family members and others who need to know are gifts that your family will appreciate. And you will have the confidence that your wishes will be carried out when the time comes.
So why don't more people do it? Good question and the only good answer is inertia. We'll get to it some day. Now there is a way to take care of both Living Will and Power of Attorney in one simple document written in layman's language- the Five Wishes. It not only covers the legal issues, but also important personal decisions you may want to consider. How comfortable I want to be, how I want people to treat me, who I want with me, what I want my loved ones to know-these issues are all covered by a simple series of questions.
The best part about it is 'it's free'. No kidding. No obligation. No strings. No follow up calls. The Five Wishes form was developed by a group called Aging with Dignity which is solely responsible for it's content. We have purchased a supply of the Five Wishes and make them available free of charge as a community service. While supplies last, we will be happy to send you a copy of this booklet. You'll be glad you did.
